FOSMIT fund Created to Incentivise Italian Mountainous Region Development

In the recent budget law drafted by the Meloni government, the €300mln “Fosmit” fund was created with the specific goal of re-populating the mountainous regions that occupy 49% of Italy’s territory.

Recent years have seen population density decline in these areas, decreasing from 197 habitants/sqKm to just 61. In addition to the increase of capital in the fund (which previously stood at just €29.5mln) to), there are a range of tax incentives for “young” enterprises and for entrepreneurs who are looking to invest and develop rural mountainous areas.

3 -year period, is to try to bridge the isolation gap even on very concrete issues such as access to healthcare, schooling and, very importantly, mobile and internet connectivity.
